In the 1980s Soviet Union, a kitten is born in a factory. He is rescued by Maria, a kind worker, who has to figure out how to get him home safely.
This picture book, for ages 4-8, offers a glimpse into a society where people like Maria and her daughter Lena practiced countercultural kindness and compassion. There’s also a cute kitten!
Proceeds from the sales of the Grisha series (of which this is the first of five books) will go to a charity working with widows, orphans, and wounded soldiers in Kyiv, Ukraine.
